Five profiles, one discipline
Your risk profile is established during your wealth diagnostic: horizon, objectives, capacity and tolerance for loss. It sets a risk budget — a floor and a ceiling on equity exposure — within which the Riviera TIDE (Tactical Investment Decision Engine) engine lets your allocation breathe, never beyond.
Investing in line with your circumstances
Understanding your profile. Your risk profile defines the level of risk suited to your circumstances and plans. It combines your financial capacity to bear losses without compromising essential needs and your tolerance for fluctuations: the falls in value you are willing to accept. A higher return objective generally involves greater risk; even a cautious profile can experience a loss of capital.
Establishing it with your adviser. A client questionnaire, followed by a discussion during your wealth assessment, examines your objectives, investment horizon, income, assets, financial commitments and liquidity needs. Your financial knowledge and investment experience are also taken into account. Your sustainability preferences complement this assessment to inform recommendations. The resulting profile is explained to you before any investment proposal.
Putting it into practice and reviewing it. Your profile guides asset allocation, diversification and the selection of suitable investments. The equity exposure ranges shown below provide an allocation framework, not a guaranteed limit on losses. Recommendations and adjustments must remain consistent with your profile and the agreed terms of the advisory service. Your profile is reviewed periodically and whenever your circumstances or objectives change.
The five profiles below provide a reference framework: choosing an allocation requires a personalised assessment with your adviser.
Riviera TIDE (Tactical Investment Decision Engine) management: the risk budget sets the floor and ceiling of each profile’s equity exposure. The engine moves exposure between those two bounds according to the market regime measured daily. Confirmed favourable regime: allocations near the ceiling. Unfavourable regime: back to the floor, never to zero. No leverage.
Target allocations are shown for information purposes only and may change. They constitute neither personalised investment advice nor an offer to subscribe. Any investment decision must be preceded by an assessment of your profile and objectives. Investing involves a risk of capital loss.
Each profile, over a quarter of a century
The same engine, five dosages: the simulated path of €100 entrusted to each of the Riviera TIDE (Tactical Investment Decision Engine) profiles on the US market, dividends reinvested, from 2002 to 2026 — twenty-five years containing four major crises and their rebounds.
Two lessons stand out. First, the ranking holds at the finish as it does along the way: the more dynamic the profile, the higher the path climbs — and the more it breathes. Second, look at the major crises (2008, 2020, 2022): where the market plunges, the curves plateau then resume — that is the engine’s discipline, visible to the naked eye. Wealth is built less by guessing peaks than by preventing storms from carrying away years of effort.

What each step adds
Each profile defines an equity exposure band — a floor and a ceiling your allocation never crosses, with no leverage and no short selling. Below, the five profiles applied to global equities, in out-of-sample simulation over 2016–2026.
| Profile | What it is for | Simulated return / yr | Max simulated loss |
|---|---|---|---|
| Defensive0–25% equities | Preservation first. A strictly framed equity sleeve, the bulk of capital in managed bonds, gold and money market. | 4.1 % | −5.1 % |
| Conservative10–40% equities | Growth without jolts. Market participation stays measured; drawdowns are cushioned early. | 5.5 % | −8.0 % |
| Balanced20–50% equities | The core of the range: at most half the portfolio in equities during favourable phases, with a simulated maximum loss three times smaller than the market’s. | 6.7 % | −10.3 % |
| Growth35–85% equities | Full participation in rising markets, accepting sharper swings — but always steered. | 9.3 % | −16.9 % |
| Ambitious50–100% equities | Equity returns as the objective, the engine’s discipline as the net for extreme losses. | 10.7 % | −21.3 % |
Read it as a staircase: each step adds expected return and amplitude. What does not change from one step to the next is the quality of the return/risk trade-off — and the presence of both a floor and a ceiling: you know at all times within which limits your wealth is navigating.
